The Prince George’s County Health Department provides HIV testing, treatment, and support services at the Cheverly Health Center. The Health Department partners with community-based organizations to provide HIV prevention and treatment services throughout the county. These organizations are at the forefront to End the HIV Epidemic, working alongside HIV advocates, policy makers, people living with HIV (PLWH) and those affected by HIV.

Heart to Hand is a community-based public health organization located in Largo, Maryland. They provide support services to those living with HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections. Heart to Hand provides individual and group behavioral and mental health support services for persons living with HIV. Other services include Outreach, Health Education and HIV testing. Linkage to Care Navigators work closely with Case Management, Psychosocial Support and Medical staff to support clients with Ryan White eligibility, PrEP, linkage to medical care, health insurance enrollment, and successful referrals to community-based support. 



Peer Program - Heart to Hand’s End The Epidemic (ETE) Apprenticeship program creates a career path that enables those living with HIV to learn about and participate in several programs across the organization, receive on-going coaching and guidance from their supervisor, and ultimately receive formal training or advancement in certification programs such as Community Health Worker, Peer Recovery Specialist or similar pathways.

Solid Rock has been serving the DMV for over 60 years and relocated to Prince George’s County in 2001. Since the early 90’s, Solid Rock has joined the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDs in various capacities to support the community, members and overall end the HIV/AIDS epidemic. In September 2010, The Solid Rock Full Gospel Baptist Church Health Ministry launched their HIV awareness programming throughout the church and community. The Strengthening OurSelves (SOS) program launched in March of 2021. SOS provides peer-based psychosocial support services to address the behavioral and physical health concerns of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), their family members, and caregivers who reside in Prince George’s County, MD. SOS is a faith-based program designed to address HIV, stigma, trauma, prevention, phobia, mental health, and substance abuse.



Solid Rock’s Dyson Caregiver Program aims to support "aging" people living with HIV/AIDs (PLWH) who are ages 50 and older with temporary mobility conditions. ‘Members’ of the program can receive up to 6 months support in the form of: home visits to support daily non-clinical functions (scheduling medical appointments, organizing transportation), light errands, basic medical services such as checking vital signs / health status, i.e., glucose reading, blood pressure, temperature, socialization activities and phone visits.

Access to Wholistic and Productive Living Inc. (AWPLI) provides a variety of community health services to promote sustainable health, improve the quality of life, and address public health and education needs.  The HIV Awareness Prevention and Promotion for You (HAPPY) program is housed at the Port Towns Health and Wellness Center in Brentwood, Maryland. The program provides HIV services that include psychosocial support services, early intervention services (EIS), outreach and education for HIV positive clients and individuals at high-risk for HIV, uninsured/underinsured.

Bowie State University (BSU) is a public historically black university in Prince George's County, Maryland. The Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) Prevention Center is a program of BSU that facilitates Prevention Education to students at Bowie State University and the surrounding community. The ATOD Peer Education program utilizes a peer-to-peer model that aims to educate students on substance abuse and HIV prevention as well as provide HIV testing, and linkages to PrEP, STI testing and HIV medical care. Peer educators engage in campus-wide outreach; cross collaborative programming; classroom workshops and presentations; and campus-wide testing events. All peer educator activities are geared towards getting students educated about HIV prevention and motivated to be HIV tested. All ATOD peer educators are certified by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.

La Clinica Del Pueblo is a multi-site organization working in D.C. and Maryland. With a mission to build a healthy Latino community through culturally appropriate health services, focusing on those most in need. La Clinica Del Pueblo continues to adapt to the growing and changing needs of the Latino community, with a special focus on expanding healthcare access in Prince George’s County, Maryland. La Clinica del Pueblo provides HIV prevention counseling, HIV testing and referral. HIV testing is conducted onsite and at HIV testing events in the community.

Latin American Youth Center, since its founding in the late 1960s, has grown from a small grassroots recreation center into a nationally recognized agency serving all low-income youth. Each year LAYC serves over 4,000 youth and families through youth centers, school-based sites, and public charter schools in the District of Columbia and Maryland’s Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties as the Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers (MMYC). LAYC offers HIV testing, linkage to care, and engagement.

At UM Capital Region Medical Center, services are provided to expand access to primary/community care, specialty care and other health care services to reduce health care disparities and improve health status. The medical center offers HIV testing and linkage to care and engages individuals disproportionately impacted by HIV due to health inequality.

Us Helping Us is a private, non-profit, 501(c)(3) community-based organization with the mission to improve the health and well-being of Black gay men and other priority populations through innovative programs and services and – through a vision of inclusiveness – to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS in the entire Black community.  Programs and services offered in Prince George’s County are under the umbrella of The DENIM Collection. The DENIM Collection is a drop-in facility that emphasizes comprehensive care coordination for young Black MSM and transgender women. The services include HIV testing, linkage to PrEP, STI services, HIV medical care and other support. Also available, health education and risk reduction activities, behavioral interventions, which include group and individual psychosocial support services.



Peer ProgramPeer educators are young Black and Latino gay, bisexual and other sexual minority men, ages 18-29 years who implement peer-based HIV prevention in Prince George’s County. The areas of HIV prevention include, sexual health education, navigation to harm reduction services including HIV testing, syringe services, linkage to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), among other services.
