Prince George’s County Percolation (PERC) Testing Application Now Being Accepted

Ruler measuring outdoor ground for PERC Testing.

If you are planning to build in Prince George's County, the Health Department has announced that it will begin limited wet-season percolation (PERC) testing as part of the requirements for installing an on-site sewage disposal (septic) system. This testing is also necessary before approving the subdivision of property that is not served by public sewer. PERC testing was previously postponed due to a drought, which led to low groundwater levels.

The Department is now prepared to resume limited wet-season testing, but not all properties will qualify. Eligibility depends on various factors, including buffer requirements, soil profiles, and property characteristics. Due to ongoing drought conditions, the buffer may be adjusted, potentially excluding your property from testing.

To apply for a percolation test, visit Momentum. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and no tests will be scheduled until your application has been submitted and approved.

For more information on percolation testing, contact your local environmental health specialist at EnvironEngProgram@co.pg.md.us or call 301-883-7681 during weekday hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
