Prince George's County Health Department Launches "Explore. Learn. Thrive." Campaign
Capitol Heights, MD – The Prince George's County Health Department announced today the launch of "Explore. Learn. Thrive.", a new campaign dedicated to empowering residents with the knowledge and resources needed to enhance health and well-being in our communities.
The campaign will feature a series of engaging pop-up events across the County, offering residents opportunities to explore the various health services and resources available to them. Each stop on the Explore. Learn. The Thrive campaign trail will include live music, exciting giveaways, on-site resources, program highlights, and opportunities to meet with Health Department staff.
Launching as one of the key initiatives of the County's newly appointed Health Officer, Dr. Toyin Opesanmi, the campaign was created as a vehicle for the community to meet and connect with the different divisions represented within the Prince George's County Health Department.
For Dr. Opesanmi, the Explore. Learn. Thrive., campaign doesn't just meet an administrative obligation for her office; it serves as a crucial touchstone between her department and the community she's dedicated her tenure to serving.
"As a trusted leader in public health, my administration is committed to improving health outcomes through increased awareness, access to critical services, and stronger connections with the communities we serve," remarked Dr. Opesanmi. "The 'Explore. Learn. Thrive.' campaign embodies our mission and reinforces our dedication to the health of every resident in Prince George's County."
For Opesanmi, this up-close, hands-on approach to community engagement is the calling card she wants for her administration.
"We encourage community members to meet with me and my team, whether they need help with chronic conditions, family wellness support, or have questions about public health initiatives," said Opesanmi. "The Prince George's County Health Department is dedicated to improving resident health through prevention and education, and we aim to engage in meaningful dialogue to better understand their needs."
Campaign organizers have planned three stops for this year's campaign, with the first event taking place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at 13820 Old Gunpowder Road, Laurel, MD 20707. Residents are encouraged to come prepared to engage, learn, and take the first step toward a healthier lifestyle.

ABOUT THE PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
The Prince George’s County Health Department provides leadership, coordination, and support for efforts to improve all residents’ access to high-quality and affordable health care services. In 1880, the General Assembly authorized the State Board of Health to establish local health boards in every city, town, and legislative district. County responsibilities were assigned in 1886, with the Board of County Commissioners becoming Prince George's County Board of Health. In 1914, it came under the control of the State Department of Health, established in 1910. The 1922 'County Health Law' expanded county health duties, leading to the appointment of full-time health officers in each county. Today, the Health Department, led by the Health Officer, provides public health services and enforces health laws within Prince George's County. Programs address community health needs and offer services unavailable in the private sector. The Health Officer, appointed by the Secretary of Health, is the executive officer and secretary of the County Board of Health
