Prince George's County Launches "Solarize Prince George's" to Help Residents Save Money and Go Solar

LARGO, MD – Prince George's County today announced the launch of Solarize Prince George's, a new County initiative designed to make rooftop solar more accessible, affordable, and achievable for homeowners across the County. The campaign provides residents with trusted information, vetted contractor connections, and between $5,000 -$10,000 in County grant funding to support the installation of residential solar panels.

"Solarize Prince George's is about empowering our residents with the tools and resources they need to reduce their energy bills and build a cleaner, healthier future," said Department of the Environment (DoE) Director Dr. Samuel B. Moki. "By simplifying the process and offering meaningful financial incentives, we're helping ensure every Prince Georgian can benefit from the transition to clean energy."

The Solarize campaign builds on the County's Solar Energy Grant program, which offers:

• $10,000 for Pepco customers residing in an Energy Resiliency Community.
• $5,000 for all other homeowners installing residential solar.
• Support for necessary home upgrades, such as roof repairs or electrical panel improvements.
• Additional stackable incentives from the Maryland Energy Administration and state energy programs.

A key feature of the Solarize campaign is the new Solarize Prince George's webpage, which provides easy-to-understand Solar 101 resources, homeowner FAQs, contractor selection guidance, financial assistance information, and a simple form for residents to express interest and receive updates.

DoE will host a series of virtual information sessions beginning January 2026, followed by an in-person community event. These events will help walk residents through the solar process, answer questions, and connect homeowners with County-approved installers.

"Residents are eager for trusted information about solar, and Solarize Prince George's delivers that clarity," said Climate & Energy Associate Director, Chris Akinbobola. "This campaign ensures homeowners can explore solar with confidence, knowing they have County-supported tools, guidance, and safeguards every step of the way."

Prince George's County has set ambitious climate goals, including a 50 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Residential solar adoption is a key strategy for achieving those goals while lowering household energy costs and supporting energy resilience for communities across the County.
