Resilience Hubs

Building Stronger, Safer Communities

Prince George’s County is on the frontlines of climate change. Severe rainstorms, flooding, power outages, and more frequent extreme heat events are already impacting our neighborhoods, health, and livelihoods. To help residents prepare and thrive, the County is creating Climate Resilience Hubs—trusted community spaces that support residents year-round and during times of disruption.

What is a Resilience Hub?

A Resilience Hub is a community-serving facility designed to support people before, during, and after climate-related emergencies. These hubs:

  • Provide resources like charging stations, cooling/warming areas, and reliable communications.
  • Serve as distribution points for supplies during emergencies.
  • Offer year-round programming that strengthens community connections and supports climate preparedness.
  • Advance broader County goals for climate adaptation, equity, and sustainability.

Our First Hubs

Prince George’s County’s first Resilience Hub is being developed at the Hyattsville Library, with the next planned at Colin Powell Academy. These sites will serve as models for a network of hubs across the County, ensuring that all communities—especially those most vulnerable to climate impacts—have access to safe and supportive spaces.

Why Resilience Hubs Matter

Resilience Hubs complement traditional emergency services like shelters and cooling centers by:

  • Offering everyday community benefits (meeting spaces, educational programs, resource access).
  • Enhancing emergency response capacity when disruptions occur.
  • Building long-term resilience by empowering residents to prepare for and recover from climate hazards.

Get Involved

The County is working with residents, community organizations, and trusted partners to shape and expand the Resilience Hub network. Together, we can make Prince George’s County a safer, healthier, and more connected place to live.
