Climate Resilience
Prince George’s County is experiencing more frequent and intense climate hazards—including flooding, extreme heat and severe storms—that threaten public health, infrastructure and livelihoods. Our Climate Resilience programs help communities anticipate, prepare for, respond to and recover from these hazards while strengthening neighborhoods and improving quality of life every day.
Key Initiatives
Resilience Hubs
Resilience hubs are trusted, community-serving facilities—such as community centers, faith-based organizations and other neighborhood gathering places—that are enhanced to support residents and coordinate services before, during and after emergencies.
Throughout the year, hubs may offer programs, information and services shaped by community needs. During a power outage, extreme heat event, severe storm or other disruption, they may provide backup power, heating or cooling, device charging, internet access, emergency information, food or medication refrigeration and connections to essential resources. Resilient Infrastructure Updates
We are working to incorporate climate resilience into County planning, zoning, infrastructure and building standards so that today’s investments are better prepared for tomorrow’s conditions.
Funding and Technical Assistance
Prince George’s County provides grants, workshops and technical support to help community-based organizations plan and develop resilience projects that address local priorities.
Why It Matters
Investing in resilience before disaster strikes reduces risks, protects residents and helps essential services continue during disruptions. Community-led resilience efforts are especially important for residents who face greater exposure to climate hazards or may have fewer resources available to prepare and recover.
