Prince George’s County Launches Summer Heat Readiness Initiative to Protect Frontline Workers

News & Events

LARGO, MD – As summer temperatures begin to rise, Prince George’s County is taking proactive steps to protect frontline workers and ensure reliable service delivery through a coordinated Summer Heat Safety and Readiness Initiative.

A key component of this effort is the continuation of earlier trash and recycling collection times, which were implemented to reduce worker exposure during peak heat hours.

“Extreme heat is not just a matter of comfort—it’s a public health and workplace safety issue,” said Dr. Samuel Moki, DoE Director. “By adjusting operations and reinforcing safety practices, we are taking practical steps to protect the employees who serve our communities every day.”

The County is also working in coordination with operational agencies to reinforce heat safety measures, including access to hydration, rest breaks, and other protective practices during high-temperature conditions.

Residents are reminded to place trash and recycling at the curb the night before their scheduled collection day to ensure timely pickup.

These efforts reflect Prince George’s County’s broader commitment to adapting services in response to changing climate conditions and supporting the well-being of its workforce.
