Prince George's County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy Proclaims November 2–8 as National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week

News & Events

LARGO, MD – In recognition of their unwavering dedication to animal welfare, the Prince George's County Department of the Environment's Animal Services Division (ASD) proudly announces that County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy has issued an official proclamation declaring November 2 through November 8, 2025, as National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week in Prince George's County.

This recognition honors the tireless efforts of ASD staff, volunteers, and supporters who provide compassionate care and help find loving homes for animals in need throughout the community.

Observed annually during the first week of November, National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week celebrates the critical role that shelters play in protecting animals and supporting responsible pet ownership. The proclamation commends ASD for its outstanding commitment to improving the lives of shelter pets — notably increasing the division's save rate by more than 20 percent over the past two years and achieving, in the most recent quarter, the highest save rate in the shelter's history: over 86 percent.

"We are incredibly grateful for this recognition, as it amplifies our mission to ensure the safety and well-being of all animals in our care," said David Fisher, Associate Director of the Animal Services Division. "This week serves as a reminder of the importance of animal shelters and the vital role they play in our communities. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the hardworking staff and volunteers who make our mission possible."

ASD invites residents to celebrate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week by recognizing the invaluable contributions of shelter staff and volunteers and by supporting ongoing animal welfare efforts across the County.
