Prince George's County Celebrates Earth Month 2026: "Earth Day Every Day"

LARGO, MD – Prince George's County and the Department of the Environment (DoE) are proud to celebrate Earth Month 2026 with a full lineup of programs, events, and initiatives designed to promote sustainability, environmental stewardship, and community engagement across the County.

"Earth Month in Prince George's County is a powerful reminder that when we invest in our environment, we invest in our future," said County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy. "Through Project Elevate and initiatives led by the Department of the Environment, we are empowering residents to take pride in their communities, reduce waste, and build a cleaner, greener County for generations to come."

Throughout April, residents are invited to participate in a variety of activities that support the vision and mission of Prince George's County Executive, Aisha N. Braveboy, the programs and initiatives of DoE, and other County agencies that foster a healthy, beautiful, and sustainable community. Events include educational workshops, recycling and waste-reduction initiatives, community giveaways, and family-friendly activities. 

Highlighted events include:

  • Reusable Bag Giveaway Series at locations across Adelphi and Chillum
  • Mulch Madness Giveaway on April 18 at the Organics Composting Facility
  • Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Event on April 25
  • Drive-Up Pet Vaccination Clinic on April 19
  • PGCLitterTRAK Trainings and Community Engagement Opportunities throughout the month
  • Arbor Day Celebration on April 17
  • Earth Day on April 22 

As shown on DoE's April 2026 Calendar of Events, Earth Month programming reflects a comprehensive approach to environmental education, waste reduction, and climate resilience. 

In addition to events, the DoE is reinforcing its commitment to keeping communities clean and safe by encouraging residents to dispose of waste and report illegal dumping properly. Residents are reminded that the County offers multiple convenient and legal disposal options for bulk items, electronics, and household hazardous waste.

“Earth Month is a time to recommit ourselves to protecting and preserving our environment, not just for today, but for future generations," said Dr. Samuel B. Moki, Director of the Prince George's County Department of the Environment. "Through education, community engagement, and accessible programs, we are empowering residents to take action and elevate their communities. Together, we can make every day Earth Day in Prince George's County."
