Prince George's County Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center to Hire First Full-Time In-House Veterinarian

News & Events

LARGO, MD - The Prince George's County Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center (ASFAC) is proud to announce that—for the first time in the Center's history—it will hire a full-time in-house veterinarian. The milestone was achieved through the community's unwavering advocacy and with the support of County officials who approved the hire this fiscal year.

This veterinarian—a crucial part of the team—will serve Countywide and make a significant contribution to the agency's mission of saving and rescuing animals. At nearly 85%, ASFAC has the best "save rate" in the shelter's history.

"The hiring of a full-time veterinarian is a significant step towards offering even greater care for shelter pets," said David L. Fisher, Chief and Administrator of the Animal Services Division. "The benefits of this position will be monumental in preparing pets for adoption and fostering and ushering in a new era of improved animal welfare in Prince George's County."

Those interested in applying for the position can view it here.

The ASFAC also reminds potential pet owners of its participation in the "Maryland 3000" and the NBCUniversal/Telemundo "Clear the Shelters" adoption events, which provide free pet adoptions through the end of August. Residents are encouraged to visit the facility to view the many adoptable animals looking for a new place to call home.

In addition, virtual pet adoptions continue for the seventh consecutive year through WeRescue, which enables website and app users to browse adoptable pets by breed, gender, size, and other factors, submit applications, and ask shelters questions. Hill's Pet Nutrition, a global leader in science-based pet nutrition, remains the campaign's national sponsor for the eighth straight year.
