Deferred Compensation Plan 457(b)

You can start saving for your financial future from the first day of employment with Prince George’s County through the County’s Deferred Compensation 457(b) Plan. 

In accordance with provisions of Section 457 of the Internal Revenue Service Code, Prince George's County has established a Deferred Compensation Program for employees in a permanent status to save money for retirement. This program provides employees with the ability to save more for retirement by electing a pre-tax and/or Roth contribution options.

Contribution Limits - 2026

  • Normal Contribution - $24,500
  • Age 50 and Over Catch-up - $32,500
    • Employees who are or will be at least 50 years of age, at any time during the calendar year, are eligible to defer up to $32,500.
  • Age 60-63 Catch-up – $35,750
    • Employees who between 60 to 63 years of age, are eligible to defer up to $35,750. At age 64 they will revert to the Age 50 and over Catch-up. 
  • Pre-Retirement Catch-up - $49,000
    • An application must be completed along with the worksheet to determine the total catch-up amount. Only employees who are within 3 years of their normal retirement age may defer up to the Pre-Retirement Catch-up contribution limit. Please contact PGCDeferredComp@co.pg.md.us to obtain the application.    

Roth Catch-UP

  • Under the Secure 2.0 Act, employees age 50+ with FICA wages exceeded $150,000 in the prior year who are making catch-up contributions, starting January 1, 2026 those catch-up contributions will be deducted on a Roth (after-tax) basis. 

Enrollment

All permanent employees can enroll in the plan at any time and manage their contribution changes directly through the Empower website: empower.com/pgcounty

Step 1: Go to empower.com/pgcounty, then select Register.  

Step 2: Choose the I do not have a PIN tab.  

Step 3: Follow the prompts to create your username and password.

Step 4: Select Customize enrollment to choose your enrollment options and click on Get Started to begin your enrollment.
