Classification & Compensation
The Classification & Compensation division ensures fair and equitable pay for all Prince George’s County Government employees. We collaborate with County agencies to develop strategies for classification & compensation objectives while adhering to state and federal guidelines.
In addition, the Classification & Compensation division:
- Reviews and analyzes data to provide recommendations regarding salary administration policies.
- Conducts job analysis, organizational studies, and audits to classify positions appropriately.
- Consults with agency directors, managers, and supervisors regarding position management and salary equity analysis requests.

A classification plan is a systematic process for grouping jobs into common classifications based on similarities in duties, responsibilities, and requirements.

A class specification is a written definition of a job class. It includes the class title, specification code number, factors distinguishing class level, typical duties, competency expectations, and minimum job requirements.

A salary plan or schedule includes job titles, class codes, salaries, and other job classification attributes within the Prince George's County Government.
