Volunteer Internship Program

Program Overview

The Prince George’s County Volunteer Internship Program is an experiential learning program that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom and enables the student to gain practical experience as a professional under conditions conducive to educational development. The program will consist of a six (6) month education and experiential learning process gained through hands-on experience working in a County agency. Applicants accepted into the program will be required to complete an orientation and sign a waiver of liability. Internship placements do not provide compensation.
 

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants seeking consideration must be enrolled in a trade school, community college, four-year college/university or graduate program. Graduate student volunteer interns must be enrolled in a Masters, Doctoral, Law Degree or a Graduate Certificate Program of study.
 

Application Process

Applicants will apply by submitting the following for program consideration: Resume, official transcripts reflecting current level of education, three (3) references, at least one of whom must be a faculty member or academic instructor. The references must include the full name, title, address, telephone number and email address for each reference. Finally, applicants must submit a double spaced one- to three-page essay detailing interest area, academic study and career objectives.

The program is currently able to consider applicants with the following interest areas: Customer Service, Computer/Information Technology, Public Safety, Homeland Security/Emergency Management, Environmental Science, Public Administration, Trades Helper, Equipment Mechanic, Building Engineer, Procurement, Accounting, Data Entry, Supply Technician, Engineering, Animal Health, Human Resources and Criminal Justice.
