Pit Bull Terriers
The Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center's regular adoption hours open Tuesday, February 3, 2026, for adopting and fostering Pit Bull Terriers and specific bully-type breeds as outlined in CB-97-2025.
CB‑97‑2025 allows pit bull–type terriers to be legally owned and adopted in the County as long as they’re registered and all requirements are met:
- Proof of current rabies vaccination
- Proof that the dog is microchipped
- Proof the dog is spayed/neutered (exhibition is the only exception)
- Certificate of Completion for PGC Pet Parenting Class
- Signed Responsibility Agreement
- County pet license (issued once all above items are met)

Cold Weather and Your Pet
Winter temperatures can pose serious threats to the health of your four-legged family members. All domestic animals except livestock are prohibited from being kept outdoors when the effective outdoor wind chill index is 32 degrees Fahrenheit. When you do take them outside for a walk or a bathroom break, the Prince George's County Animal Services Division reminds pet owners to carefully watch how long their animals are exposed to the winter conditions.
- Residents are reminded to:
- Bring their pets indoors.
- Report animals left outdoors in severe weather conditions.

Full-time Veterinarian
The Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center (ASFAC) welcomes Dr. Constante Tinaza as the first-ever full-time Veterinarian for Prince George's County Animal Services Division.
Dr. Tinaza has a wide range of experience in the veterinary field in public sheltering, private practice, and herd and public health. His experience aligns well with our domestic and livestock populations in the county. He is excited to join our team and improve the lives and health of animals in our care and across the county.
Dr. Tinaza joins the team alongside our part‑time contractual veterinarians, Dr. Yusuf and Dr. Owens, who have been instrumental over the years in providing critical care and enabling us to serve more than a thousand animals through vaccination clinics in 2025. Their continued collaboration will bring even greater capacity and consistency to our veterinary care.
Shelter Capacity
The Shelter is at Critical capacity! Adopt or foster now to save our fur friends.
We are at full capacity! We urgently need your help finding loving homes for our dogs, particularly for our larger and senior dogs. Without your help, we may have to find alternative solutions for our healthy, adoptable dogs due to a lack of space.
Here's how you can help:
- Consider rehoming your pet with family and friends first or contact one of our County-approved rescue organizations
- Adopt our dogs into your loving home
- Foster a dog short term
- Donate items to help enrich their stay
- Volunteer to walk dogs, socialize cats, clean, stuff treats, and more

Medical Treatment
Getting the animals out of the facility and into homes is crucial to their long-term success. Releasing treated animals after the appropriate period does not pose a health threat to the community.
To help reduce the spread of the disease in the community, ASFAC encourages pet owners to keep their pets up to date on vaccines, avoid communal water bowls, and seek medical advice from a veterinarian if any symptoms, such as a cough or runny nose, develop or worsen.
Donations Needed
We greatly appreciate your generosity! We need monetary donations, pet supplies, Kuranda beds for our dogs, and KMR milk and bottles for our kittens.
