Prince George's County Celebrates Earth Day 2026: The Power of Green
Largo, MD – Prince George's County Government and its Department of the Environment (DoE) proudly join communities around the globe in celebrating Earth Day 2026, embracing this year's theme, "The Power of Green." This annual observance highlights the County's continued commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability, and building a healthier, more resilient future for all residents.
This morning, County officials joined with the Clean Water Partnership, Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS), DoE, and the students and faculty of Seat Pleasant Elementary School, in a special Earth Day Celebration and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony marking the completion of a new Outdoor Learning Space for students and the community. The new space is designed to enhance environmental education and provide students with hands-on learning opportunities.
Throughout April, DoE has engaged residents, schools, businesses, and community partners in a series of impactful Earth Month activities designed to educate, inspire, and spur action. From community cleanups and recycling outreach events to free household hazardous waste and electronics recycling events, and the popular Mulch Madness Giveaway, these initiatives demonstrate the collective power of small actions to create meaningful change.
"Earth Day is a reminder that each of us plays a vital role in protecting our environment," said DoE Director, Dr. Samuel B. Moki. "Through innovation, partnership, and community engagement, we are proud to elevate Prince George's County as a leader in sustainability and environmental responsibility."
As part of this year's Earth Month celebration, DoE has highlighted the work of its divisions. These programs and initiatives protect our natural resources, promote clean energy, support animal welfare, and keep communities clean and green. These efforts align with County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy's broader vision of fostering a safe, equitable, and sustainable environment for current and future generations. Click to view a copy of an Earth Month proclamation.

In addition, DoE reminds residents of the importance of proper waste disposal, recycling, composting, water conservation, and energy efficiency as everyday practices that support environmental health.
"Together, we can harness the power of green to create lasting impact," added Dr. Moki. "Let Earth Day serve as a call to action for all of us to protect, preserve, and elevate our environment."
