NPDES-MS4 Regulatory Inspections

  1. Commercial and Industrial Survey

DoE conducts annual visual surveys of commercial and industrial areas by using industrial and commercial land uses and sites that the County has determined to have the potential to contribute significant pollutants. DOE inspectors conduct these visual surveys to discover, document and eliminate pollutant sources in these commercial and industrial areas.

  2. Illicit Discharge Detection & Elimination

IDDE (Illicit Discharge detection and Elimination). This program requires the County to identify and address any illicit discharge found allowing contaminants and nutrient loads to be released into County waterways. This is accomplished by inspecting selected outfalls and addressing complaints from the public.

  3. Private Best Management Practices (BMP) Inspection

There are over 4,000 privately-owned and maintained Best Management Practices (BMPs) located throughout Prince George’s County located on private residential and commercial properties.

  4. SWPPP Inspection Program

The County is required to assure that its industrial facilities covered by the NPDES 20-SW general permits meet the permit condition for the 18 sites, 9 County facilities and 9 Municipal facilities.  Routine inspections are performed quarterly for each facility to monitor for operational compliance and reporting.
