Ronald E. Gill, Jr. has served as the Director of Emergency Management since September 29, 2011.  Having served with the  District of Columbia Fire & Emergency Medical Services Department since April 1986.  During his 25 years of dedicated service, Mr. Gill has proven to be a true leader, gaining the respect of his fellow firefighters and the citizens of Washington, D.C.

Since 1986, Mr. Gill has steadily ascended through the ranks serving as Technician, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Fire Chief, and most recently serving as the Deputy Fire Chief of Special Operations/Homeland Security.  In this position, he was responsible for the overall management and direction to prevent, respond to, and recover from natural and man-made emergencies.   He directed and coordinated the Department’s interactions with Federal, State, and local partners during all planned special events within the Nation’s Capital, he oversaw the Fleet Management Division and he served as the District of Columbia’s first National Incident Management System (NIMS) Compliance Officer.

Mr. Gill obtained his Associate and Bachelor of Fire Science Degrees from The University of the District of Columbia, and Masters of Science in Management from The Johns Hopkins University.  In addition, he is pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy in Fire and Emergency Management from Oklahoma State University.  He is also a 2007 graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Emergency Training Center.
