Conservation Land
The Natural Area Conservation Property Tax Credit encourages the preservation and protection of natural areas in Prince George's County by providing a property tax credit for qualifying properties dedicated to conservation, environmental education, and public enjoyment.
The credit supports landowners who preserve environmentally significant areas and make them available for conservation, education, or wildlife protection.
Credit Amount
The credit applies to the County portion of the real property tax for qualifying property used for eligible conservation purposes.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Natural Area Conservation Property Tax Credit, the property must be used for one or more of the following purposes:
- Assisting in the preservation of a natural area.
- Providing environmental education to the public.
- Promoting conservation.
- Maintaining a natural area for public use or as a wildlife sanctuary.
Eligible Properties
The credit applies to real property that is used exclusively for one or more of the eligible conservation purposes.
How to Apply
To apply for the Natural Area Conservation Property Tax Credit:
- Complete the Property Tax Credit application.
- Submit the completed application to the Office of Law.
- File the application annually.
- Submit the application on or before October 1 of the tax year for which the credit is requested.
- Include all required documentation demonstrating the property's eligibility.
Required Documentation
Applications must include:
- Proof that the property is used for one or more qualifying conservation purposes.
- Any additional information requested by the Office of Law to verify eligibility.
Important Information
- The credit must be renewed annually.
- The property must continue to be used for qualifying conservation purposes to remain eligible.
- Failure to submit the annual application by October 1 may result in the loss of the credit for that tax year.
