Clean and Green: Elevate the Scene Unites County Leadership and Community

NEW BLOG

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) hosted Fall Clean and Green: Elevate the Scene, continuing a County tradition with new faces in leadership joining the countywide cleanup.

Newly appointed Acting Director Anthony Bennett and Acting Deputy Director Tasha Brooks-Thornton visited three sites with agency teams to connect with volunteers and highlight the community partnerships behind the day’s efforts.

County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy, accompanied by Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (DCAO) Kevin Stephen, joined DPW&T at Largo Town Center Association in Largo and Northview Elementary School in Bowie, with special guests from 93.9 WKYS. Throughout the morning, neighbors worked together to remove litter from intersections and corridors where discarded water bottles, soda cans, chip bags, and other debris too often accumulate.

Residents also planted flowers, shrubs, and even produce in small, intimate gardens like the one behind Northview Elementary School, which contributes to a local Bowie food pantry. There, the work extended beyond beautification, bringing families together to nurture a space that helps feed their neighbors.

“This is often a great opportunity for our parents and community to come out and fellowship,” said Northview Elementary School Principal Shaun Mathis.

The day concluded in Langley Park, where agency leaders recognized residents’ hard work planting trees and cleaning their community. Volunteers were still at work as Clean and Green coordinators led teams along trails and pathways to collect litter, reflecting the care residents bring to the places they call home.

DPW&T thanks every volunteer and community partner who contributed to this fall’s Clean and Green: Elevate the Scene. We look forward to seeing familiar faces—and welcoming new ones—as we come together again for the spring cleanup.
