Special Victim and Family Violence Unit
Overview
The Special Victims Unit prosecutes cases involving the most vulnerable victims in Prince George’s County. This includes child abuse, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, human trafficking, child exploitation, and abuse of vulnerable adults.
SVU is a core partner within the County’s Child Advocacy Center, which investigates all allegations of child abuse. The Unit also collaborates closely with community partners to provide comprehensive, victim-centered support and services.
Collaboration and Leadership
SVU works across agencies to strengthen outcomes for victims and families. The Unit maintains active leadership and participation in key multidisciplinary efforts, including:
Sexual Assault Review Team
Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team
Human Trafficking Committee for Prince George’s County
Through these partnerships, SVU helps coordinate prevention, intervention, and long-term support strategies.
