Post-Trial Procedure Unit
Overview
The Post-Trial Unit represents the State in legal proceedings that occur after a conviction. These matters are critical to ensuring that sentences are properly reviewed, upheld, or modified in accordance with the law.
The Unit handles a wide range of post-conviction proceedings, including:
- Violations of probation
- Motions for reconsideration of sentence
- Applications for review of sentence by a three-judge panel
- Motions for drug treatment pursuant to Health General Article Section 8-507
- Petitions for writ of actual innocence
- Petitions for writ of error coram nobis
- Habeas petitions
- Petitions for post-conviction relief
In addition, the Post-Trial Unit coordinates the Office’s response to Maryland Public Information Act requests, ensuring timely and compliant access to public records.
