Homicide Unit
Overview
The Homicide Unit is responsible for investigating and prosecuting all homicide cases within the county.
Attorneys in the unit work closely with law enforcement from the earliest stages of each case, partnering with county and municipal police detectives to ensure thorough, coordinated investigations. Using all available legal tools, the team works to establish the facts, identify responsible parties, and bring appropriate charges to ensure justice is served.
In addition to case prosecution, the unit provides legal guidance to the Prince George’s County Police Department and local municipal agencies in the investigation of suspicious deaths.
Complex Cases
Homicide cases are often complex and emotionally demanding, requiring the use of forensic evidence, expert testimony, and careful legal analysis. Some cases may take years to resolve due to the level of detail required to ensure accuracy, fairness, and public safety.
Victim Support
The Homicide Unit remains committed to seeking justice, supporting victims and their families, and ensuring their voices are heard throughout the legal process, consistent with the law.
Victims and their families are supported throughout this process by our Victim Witness Coordinators, who provide guidance, advocacy, and help individuals understand and navigate the criminal justice system.
