State’s Attorney Announces Sentencing in Fatal Riverdale Crosswalk Case

Press Release

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Prince George’s County Interim State’s Attorney Tara Jackson announced today that 52-year-old Olga Lugo Jiminez has been sentenced after pleading guilty to two counts of driver failure to stop for pedestrian in crosswalk on April 14, 2025.

On November 20, 2023, Jiminez was driving along Taylor Road and turned left onto Riverdale Road, striking Franklyn Sosa, who was escorting his son, 5-year-old Sky Sosa, as well as 10-year-old Shalom Joy Mbah through the crosswalk along Riverdale Road, killing both children and injuring Mr. Sosa.

The maximum statutory sentence under the Maryland State Commission on Criminal Sentencing Policy’s Sentencing Guidelines is 60 days for each count of failure to stop. The State pursued the maximum penalty under Maryland law. Jiminez will serve 4 months in jail. The criminal investigation revealed no gross negligence was involved.

“The loss of these two children is a tragic accident, and we want to stress that we take these types of cases very seriously,” says Interim State’s Attorney Jackson. “This incident serves a stark reminder of how critical it is for drivers to remain vigilant and responsible behind the wheel. Today’s sentence does not begin to reflect the depth of this loss for the Sosa and Mbah families. Their lives have been forever impacted because of this heartbreaking tragedy, and our hearts remain with them during this incredibly difficult time."
