State's Attorney Announces Sentence Related to 2017 Suitland Murder
UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Tara H. Jackson announced today that 33-year-old Furl John Williams has been sentenced to life in prison, suspending all but 60 years, after being convicted of murder, armed carjacking, armed robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony related to the murder of 27-year-old Wayne Pope.
In May 2017, Williams shot Pope at an Exxon gas station on Silver Hill Road while trying to steal his car.
“Today’s sentence reflects our commitment to holding those who choose violence fully accountable,” said State’s Attorney Jackson. “While no sentence can undo the tremendous loss suffered by Mr. Pope’s family, it reinforces that those who commit violent crimes in our community will be held responsible for their actions. I am grateful to our prosecutors and our law enforcement partners for their tireless work and dedication to ensuring justice was achieved in this case.”
