State’s Attorney Announces Indictment of Charges Related to Fatal MLK Crash

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Tara Jackson announced today that Michael Collins has been indicted on charges including theft, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, unauthorized removal of a motor vehicle, rogue and vagabond, and conspiracy to commit unauthorized removal of a motor vehicle, in connection to the fatal accident that killed 35-year-old Shaunte Canty. Collins will be tried as an adult.

 

In August 2025, Collins was driving a stolen vehicle with 3 other juvenile passengers when they ran a red light, striking the vehicle occupied by Canty and her 2-year-old child.   

 

“My office remains committed to pursuing justice for Shaunte and her family, and that means holding individuals, including juveniles, accountable for their actions,” says State’s Attorney Jackson.
