Major Crimes Division
The Major Crimes Division comprises the Homicide Unit, Gun Crimes Unit, Gun Intel Unit, and Gun Offender Registry Unit. The Homicide Section is a valuable investigative entity investigating all homicides, suicides, and accidental deaths. The Gun Crimes Unit investigates all cases in which a person is injured by gunfire and all other offenses in which a firearm is discharged during the commission of a crime. The Gun Intel Unit monitors all firearm recoveries in Prince George’s County and investigates illegal firearm trafficking. Based on NIBIN leads, the Unit focuses on violent neighborhood crime and prepares cases for federal prosecution. The Gun Offender registry ensures that all Persons convicted of gun crimes within Prince George’s County register twice a year. It investigates where gun offenders fail to register and obtain body attachment warrants for individuals who are not in compliance. This unit also conducts field investigations and verifies home and work addresses of gun offenders.
