Account Takeover
Someone gained unauthorized access to your accounts (email, banking, social media, shopping) and used them without permission. You may notice strange activity, unfamiliar logins, changed passwords, or unauthorized purchases/transfers.
Common examples: Email hacked and used to scam your contacts, bank account accessed and money transferred out, social media accounts posting spam, online shopping accounts making unauthorized purchases.
Details Investigators Need From You
If you believe your accounts have been compromised, please share as much of the following information as possible. Even if you do not have everything, provide what you do have. Quick reporting helps investigators trace unauthorized access and prevent further damage.
General Information
- Which accounts were compromised – bank accounts, email, social media, shopping sites, etc.
- When you first noticed the unauthorized activity and what made you aware of it.
- Screenshots or documentation of unauthorized transactions, messages, or changes to your accounts.
- Any notifications from the service provider about suspicious login attempts or account changes.
- Recovery emails or texts you may have received from the compromised accounts.
- Bank or credit card statements showing unauthorized transactions.
- Any communication from the attacker (emails sent from your account, messages to your contacts).
- Recent password changes or security alerts you received before the incident.
- Devices you use to access these accounts and whether any were lost, stolen, or shared.
Important: Account takeovers can escalate quickly as attackers gain access to more personal information. Report immediately and change passwords on all accounts.
Please Note: Cases are typically assigned for investigation only after the reporting person or victim provides adequate supporting information and documentation. The details you provide directly impact our ability to pursue your case.
