PRESS RELEASE:
REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES $1 MILLION IN FUNDING FOR COMMERCIAL PROPERTY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
LARGO, MD — The Redevelopment Authority of Prince George's County (RDA) announced today that $1 million in funding is available through the Commercial Property Improvement Program (CPIP) for qualifying Prince George’s County businesses. Applications are now being accepted from June 12, 2026, with a deadline of July 31, 2026, by 5:00 p.m.
The CPIP provides support to owners of shopping centers and main street retail properties seeking to elevate exterior aesthetics, placemaking features, lighting, and major building systems. The program is designed to strengthen the competitiveness, attractiveness, and long-term viability of commercial retail areas throughout Prince George’s County.
As part of County Executive Aisha Braveboy's broader commitment to economic transformation in Prince George's County, the Commercial Property Improvement Program (CPIP) delivers targeted resources to help business owners modernize their properties, expand their market presence, and remain agile in a growing economy — all while reinvesting in the communities that depend on them.
“Economic development starts with creating places where businesses can succeed, and communities can flourish,” said County Executive Aisha Braveboy. “Through the Commercial Property Improvement Program, we are giving business and property owners the tools to elevate their investments, attract new customers, and strengthen the commercial corridors that serve as the backbone of our local economy.”
The County Executive continued, “[Investments] like these will help drive economic growth, create job opportunities, and continue positioning Prince George’s County as a leader in innovation, business development, and community revitalization.”
The Redevelopment Authority of Prince George’s County announced its last CPIP funding of $250,000 in April 2026, supporting businesses along the Central Avenue Blue Line Corridor and Suitland-Naylor Road Metro Sustainable Community areas.
"The Commercial Property Improvement Program is an investment in the heart of our small business community, and we are proud to continue providing local businesses with resources like these," said Perry L. Paylor, Executive Director of the Redevelopment Authority of Prince George's County.
Paylor continued, "Our County is home to a significant number of minority- and woman-owned businesses, and funding like this allows us to reinvest in our neighborhoods, our local economy, and the future we are collectively building together."
The CPIP requires applicants to provide a 50% match for all funding awarded to approved shopping centers and retail spaces for eligible improvements. Applicants must cover half of the total project costs to apply for CPIP funding. The minimum grant amount is $25,000, which applies to total project costs of $50,000. The maximum grant is $350,000, applicable to the total project costs of $700,000.
The goal is to select applicants with the strongest market potential for investment. Commercial spaces occupied solely by places of worship or non-retail uses do not meet the qualification requirements. Shopping center owners who were the recipients of the 2019-2024 CPIP funding are not eligible to apply for this year’s funding.
While CPIP will reimburse up to 50% of approved construction costs as costs are incurred and documented, architectural design and permit costs will not be reimbursed until after construction is completed. In addition, construction on the approved project must begin within 90 days after grant approval and must be completed within 270 days after approval. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
A virtual pre-application webinar for CPIP will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 2:30 PM. Interested participants should RSVP by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, to receive the Zoom link and passcode to attend. Please RSVP to CPIP@co.pg.md.us.
The CPIP Notice of Funding, application, and responses to questions can be found on the RDA website: https://www.princegeorgescountymd.gov/departments-offices/redevelopment-authority/grants/commercial-property-improvement-program
