Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Bomb Squad Assists the United States Park Police
LARGO, MD — At approximately 2:13 PM Sunday afternoon, the United States Park Police (USPP) received a report of a suspected explosive device incident. Officers arrived on scene at 2:39 PM and immediately secured the area while conducting a preliminary investigation.
During their initial response, officers canvassed the area. At approximately 2:50 PM, officers located multiple suspected explosive devices.
The Prince George’s County Fire Department Bomb Squad was notified at 3:07 PM, and specialized units arrived on scene shortly after to begin coordinated operations to assess and neutralize any potential threat.
Initial operations resulted in multiple devices being safely recovered. Due to poor visibility, operations were suspended Sunday evening. Work was resumed on Monday to continue a comprehensive search of the area.
After a full day of investigation, a total of nine devices were located.
Today, law enforcement and partner agencies continue to ensure the area is secure by conducting additional sweeps for any remaining hazards and collecting evidence as needed.
The park will reopen on Wednesday, the 25th, for an additional day to ensure public safety while authorities complete their work.
