From Hyattsville to the Super Bowl: Champion Olu Oluwatimi Returns Home for Meet-and-Greet with County Executive Aisha Braveboy
LARGO, MD — Prince George’s County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy hosted a Meet & Greet on Wednesday, March 25, with Olusegun “Olu” Oluwatimi, who shared his inspiring journey from Prince George’s County to becoming an NFL Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl champion. During the event, County Executive Braveboy presented Oluwatimi with a proclamation. “You represented Prince George’s County on the largest night in television, and we couldn’t be more proud,” she said.
In a heartfelt moment, Oluwatimi reflected on personal adversity. When asked how he navigated the challenges following his father’s recent passing, he told students, “You owe it to yourself, because God has blessed you with that ability to perform.”
Student-athletes from local high schools—including Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School, C.H. Flowers, and his alma mater, DeMatha Catholic High School—participated in a Q&A session. Oluwatimi offered candid and encouraging advice to young athletes about preparing for their future and staying focused on their goals. “You have to have the right people speaking into your life who share similar goals, and that helps you eliminate distractions,” he said.
Derek Finner, a lifelong Prince Georgian and former Seattle Seahawks player, commended Oluwatimi for his resilience and tenacity, noting that navigating the NFL requires overcoming challenges that aren’t always visible on Sunday night games.
Bill McGregor, legendary DeMatha Catholic High School coach with more than 330 victories and 19 championships, also praised Oluwatimi. He highlighted Olu’s unwavering faith, dedication to family, and big heart—qualities that shine both on and off the field.
