Fleet Maintenance Division Earns 3rd Place National Ranking in 2025 NAFA Green Garage Competition

Prince George’s County, MD — The Office of Central Services (OCS) is proud to announce that its Fleet Maintenance Division (FMD) has been awarded 3rd place nationally in the prestigious 2025 NAFA Green Garage Competition, placing Prince George’s County among the most sustainable government fleets in the country.

This year’s competition included government and commercial fleets from across the nation. FMD ranked just behind the Long Beach Port (#1) and Cobb County (#2), a strong peer and supporter of our government operations. The recognition also affirms OCS-FMD as the #1 greenest municipal fleet in the entire DMV region.

Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Chris Osuji expressed extreme pride in the accomplishment stating,” this achievement reinforces what we already know-Prince George’s County is leading with purpose, discipline, and innovation. The Fleet Maintenance Division’s national recognition reflects level of excellence we expect across all government operations.”

This award highlights the Fleet Maintenance Division’s continuous evolution and commitment to sustainability—even in the face of operational challenges. Over the past year, FMD has strengthened sustainability practices, improved workflow and work environments, and aligned operations with the County’s broader priorities under County Executive Aisha Braveboy’s leadership.

David J. Byrd, Director of the Office of Central Services, applauded the achievement:

“This national ranking is more than an award — it’s a reflection of the discipline, innovation, and pride our Fleet Maintenance Division brings to Prince George’s County every day. Their leadership in sustainability sets a powerful standard not just for our region, but for the entire country. I am immensely proud of the team, and we will continue to support their efforts to forge ahead with purpose and integrity.”

OCS FMD has taken the initiative to implement several key innovative industry practices to include: integrating soy-based tires and bio-based products, expanding electric vehicle (EV) adoption, transitioning to a paperless fleet operation, advancing eco-friendly purchasing, and maintenance practices. These steps mark intentional, long-term progress toward building one of the most advanced and environmentally responsible municipal fleets in the nation.

Fleet Manager LP Monroe, whose leadership guided the division through this milestone, adds:

“Our team has remained focused and resilient, even when the work was tough. This recognition affirms the intentional steps we’ve taken to modernize our fleet, strengthen our sustainability practices, and support the County’s vision for a cleaner, greener future. We are committed to maintaining this momentum and continuing to serve with innovation, integrity, and purpose.”

This achievement demonstrates Prince George’s County’s commitment to environmental stewardship and operational excellence, further positioning the County as a national model for sustainable fleet management.
