County Executive Braveboy's Statement on Retirement of Congressman Steny Hoyer
LARGO, MD — Today, County Executive Braveboy released the following statement on the retirement of Congressman Steny Hoyer:
"Steny Hoyer embodies the very best of Prince George's County and the promise of public service rooted in community. Educated right here in our county's public school system as a graduate of Suitland High School, Congressman Hoyer's journey reflects what is possible when local investment, civic commitment, and leadership align.
From his early service in the Maryland General Assembly to his decades representing Maryland on the federal stage, Congressman Hoyer never lost sight of the people and communities that shaped him. His rise to senior leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives proved pivotal for Maryland, especially in moments of national uncertainty, ensuring our state had a strong, steady, and respected voice at the highest levels of government.
His legacy is one of principled leadership, mentorship, and results, grounded in a deep belief that government can and must work for the people. On behalf of the residents of Prince George's County, I extend my profound gratitude to Congressman Hoyer for his extraordinary service and enduring partnership. We wish him and his family continued health, fulfillment, and peace as he enters this next chapter."
