County Executive Braveboy's Statement on Maryland House of Delegates Speaker Adrienne Jones Stepping Down as Speaker
HISTORIC LEADERSHIP OF SPEAKER ADRIENNE JONES
“SHE INSPIRED LEADERS AND MADE MARYLAND BETTER”
LARGO, MD — “Speaker Adrienne Jones is a dedicated, compassionate, and selfless public servant and leader. She made history in Maryland with her leadership as the first woman Speaker of the House, after having previously made history as the first woman and longest serving Speaker Pro Tem. Her leadership has impacted the State of Maryland by embodying what it means to be a leader who is dedicated and compassionate in the work of public service.
I had the distinct honor of being mentored by and serving with Speaker Jones in the State House during the eight years I served in the Maryland General Assembly, where, together, we fought for legislation around education equity for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). She was a key player in expanding healthcare access for Marylanders and for advocating for policies focused on the well-being of communities tackling systemic healthcare issues.
Maryland House of Delegates Speaker Adrienne Jones is a leader and a true inspiration. As she continues her work as a House Delegate, I have no doubt that her influence will continue to resonate for generations to come, making Maryland a better, stronger state."
