LARGO, MD – Prince George’s County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy announced today the appointment of Ingrid S. Watson as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation (EDC). PGCEDC is a nonprofit organization and a key economic development partner of Prince George’s County government, operating under the governance of an independent Board of Directors.
Watson, who recently stepped down after three years as County Councilmember for District 4, brings extensive experience in government, economic development, workforce policy, and community leadership. During her tenure, she represented Bowie, Greenbelt, Westchester Park, Glenn Dale, and parts of Lanham and Upper Marlboro. Previously, she served as At-Large Councilmember for the City of Bowie and was an elected member of the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee for Legislative District 23.
“Councilmember Watson has demonstrated a consistent commitment to sustainable, community-driven development, balancing infrastructure investment, environmental stewardship, and business growth while maintaining strong relationships with local businesses, nonprofit partners, and regional stakeholders,” said County Executive Braveboy. “When I was seeking someone to lead the Economic Development Corporation, I wanted a person who truly understands the landscape of Prince George’s County’s economy and can recognize our strengths and opportunities to move the county forward. Ingrid is that person.”
Watson brings more than a decade of direct experience in Prince George’s County government, along with deep expertise in economic development, fiscal policy, and workforce strategy. As Chair of the Government Operations & Fiscal Policy (GOFP) Committee, she worked extensively on economic incentives and financing tools, including tax increment financing (TIF), payments in lieu of taxes (PILOT), and grant mechanisms to attract and retain business investment.
She also served on the Education & Workforce Development (EWD) and Health, Human Services, and Public Safety (HHSPS) Committees, where she helped shape policies that drive growth across key sectors. Her leadership experience includes collaborating on the county’s $5.8 billion budget and representing the Council on the Council of Governments (COG) Board of Directors and the Prince George’s County Workforce Board.
Throughout her career, Watson has maintained consistent community engagement, hosting events and initiatives to ensure policies reflect resident needs. Her nonprofit and civic leadership spans more than 30 years. It includes service as the 11th President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Iota Gamma Omega Chapter, President of Ivy Community Charities of Prince George’s County, Maryland State Coordinator for the North Atlantic Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and charter member of the Willow Oak Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.
Watson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Saint Augustine’s University and a Master of Arts in Management from the University of Phoenix. She resides in Prince George’s County with her husband, Maryland State Senator Ron Watson (District 23), and is a mother of two and a grandmother.
