County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy Congratulates Oluseyi Olugbenle on historic appointment as Maryland Deputy Secretary of Transportation
Largo, MD - Prince George’s County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy today congratulated Oluseyi Olugbenle, Acting Director of the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T), on her historic appointment as Deputy Secretary of Transportation for the State of Maryland. Olugbenle, who will become the first Black woman to serve in this role, will conclude her service with Prince George’s County on October 13, 2026.
Raised in Prince George’s County, Olugbenle has spent the past four and a half years serving the community that helped shape her. She brings nearly 15 years of transportation and infrastructure leadership experience to the State, with expertise spanning public works, capital programming, procurement, strategic planning, and transportation operations.
“I am incredibly proud of Oluseyi and grateful for her service to Prince George’s County,” said County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy. “She stepped forward to lead DPW&T at a critical time providing stability while continuing to move the agency forward. Under her leadership, the County launched a new vision and brand for its transit system, elevated our beautification efforts, strengthened our snow operations planning, and continued advancing critical transportation and infrastructure priorities.”
“Oluseyi’s story is also a Prince George’s County story” continued Braveboy. “She grew up here, returned here to serve, and is now taking the experience she gained here to help lead transportation policy and infrastructure investment across Maryland. Her appointment is historic as well as deserved, and I am confident she will continue to be a strong partner and advocate for Prince George’s County.”
During her tenure with Prince George’s County, Olugbenle held senior leadership roles across transportation, infrastructure, public works, capital programming, procurement, and strategic planning. As Acting Director of DPW&T, she guided one of the County’s most visible service agencies through a critical leadership transition while maintaining essential operations and advancing key priorities affecting mobility, infrastructure, transit, and quality of life for County residents.
For Olugbenle, the appointment represents both a professional milestone and the continuation of a family legacy rooted in service and opportunity. The daughter of Nigerian immigrants, she was raised in Prince George’s County alongside her four sisters by parents whose example instilled the values of hard work, perseverance, service, and creating opportunities for others.
“I am deeply proud to have served the County that raised me,” said Olugbenle. “Prince George’s County shaped who I am, personally and professionally, and serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of my career. I am especially grateful to the dedicated and hardworking team of DPW&T who show up every day to serve our residents.”
“My parents came to this country and worked hard to build a life and create opportunities for their five daughters,” Olugbenle continued. “Their example taught me the value of perseverance, service, and opening doors for those who come after us. To now have the opportunity to serve Maryland in this capacity, and to make history while doing so, carries tremendous meaning for me and my family.”
“As I take this next step, I will bring the perspective and experience I gained in Prince George’s County to the work of strengthening transportation and infrastructure across Maryland,” said Olugbenle. “My role may be changing, but my commitment to Prince George’s County is not. I look forward to remaining a strong partner to the County and helping ensure our residents receive the transportation investments and opportunities they deserve.”
