PRESS RELEASE

County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy Appoints Oluseyi Olugbenle as Acting Director of the Department of Public Works and Transportation

Largo, MD- Prince George's County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy today announced the appointment of Oluseyi Olugbenle as Acting Director of the Prince George's County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T), effective Friday, July 3rd, 2026.

A nationally recognized transportation executive and accomplished public servant, Olugbenle brings more than 15 years of experience in transportation planning, infrastructure development, public works operations, and capital program management. Since joining Prince George's County in 2022 as Deputy Director of DPW&T, she has helped lead the department while overseeing more than 450 employees across six divisions responsible for roadway maintenance, engineering, stormwater management, transit services, and administrative operations.

"Oluseyi has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic vision, and an unwavering commitment to serving the residents of Prince George's County," said County Executive Braveboy. "She understands that transportation is more than roads, bridges, and buses; it is about creating opportunity, strengthening neighborhoods, improving quality of life, and building the infrastructure necessary for our County to continue to elevate. I have every confidence that she will provide strong leadership during this transition and continue advancing our vision for a safer, cleaner, and more connected Prince George's County."

As Acting Director, Olugbenle will oversee the Department's daily operations while continuing to implement the County Executive's transportation and infrastructure agenda. She will lead a department responsible for maintaining more than 2,000 miles of County roadways, overseeing stormwater infrastructure, managing transit operations, and delivering a Capital Improvement Program consisting of more than 50 projects totaling approximately $1.6 billion.

Prior to joining Prince George's County, Olugbenle served as Director of the Office of Planning and Capital Programming at the Maryland Department of Transportation, Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA), where she directed enterprise-wide capital planning for the nation's 13th-largest multimodal transit system. She managed a $12.6 billion asset management program, oversaw development of the agency's nearly $4 billion six-year capital program, and led project development, environmental planning, sustainability initiatives, and strategic planning efforts. Earlier in her career, she served in transportation planning and policy leadership roles with the Maryland Department of Transportation and WSP USA.

Her distinguished leadership has earned widespread recognition throughout the transportation industry. Among her honors are the 2026 Women Who Elevate Award, presented by County Executive Braveboy for excellence in transportation and infrastructure; the 2025 Rosa Parks Transportation Leadership Award from the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS); the 2023 Mass Transit National 40 Under 40 Award; the Transportation Association of Maryland Outstanding Leadership Award; and the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) Emerging Leader of the Year Award. She currently serves as Prince George's County's alternate member on the DC Water Board of Directors and was appointed by Governor Wes Moore to the Maryland Commission on Transportation Revenue and Infrastructure Needs.

County Executive Braveboy also expressed her sincere appreciation to outgoing Director Michael D. Johnson for his years of dedicated service to Prince George's County.

"I want to thank Director Johnson for his leadership and unwavering commitment to public service," Braveboy said. "Throughout his tenure, he has worked tirelessly to strengthen our transportation network, improve critical infrastructure, and better serve the residents of Prince George's County. His leadership has helped position the Department for continued success, and we are grateful for his many contributions. On behalf of the people of Prince George's County, I wish him nothing but continued success in his future endeavors."

County Executive Braveboy also announced that the County will immediately begin a comprehensive regional search for a permanent Director of the Department of Public Works and Transportation.

"The Department of Public Works and Transportation is one of the most important agencies in our government, touching the lives of our residents every single day," said Braveboy. "My administration is committed to conducting a broad regional search to identify an exceptional leader who shares our vision for excellence, innovation, accountability, and customer service. We are looking for someone with the experience, integrity, and leadership necessary to elevate Prince George's County and continue transforming our transportation and public works systems into a model for the region."

"While that search is underway, I have complete confidence in Acting Director Oluseyi Olugbenle," Braveboy continued. "Her experience, institutional knowledge, and proven record of leadership make her uniquely qualified to guide the Department during this transition. I know she will continue delivering the high-quality services our residents expect while helping us build the modern transportation infrastructure that supports economic development, public safety, environmental sustainability, and opportunity for every community in Prince George's County."

Olugbenle holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Urban Design and a Master of Science in Community Planning from the University of Maryland, College Park. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to advancing equitable transportation solutions, mentoring future transportation professionals, and improving mobility and infrastructure for communities across Maryland.
