PRESS RELEASE

County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy Announces Prince George’s County World Cup Festival Celebrating Community and Economic Opportunity

LARGO, MD—Prince George’s County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy announced today the upcoming Prince George’s County World Cup Festival, a free, two-day community celebration hosted in partnership with EagleSport Holdings. The event will take place at the Prince George’s County Sports and Learning Complex and will bring residents together to experience world-class soccer, local entertainment, and family-friendly programming.

This will be the first time the FIFA World Cup has been hosted in the USA since 1994. The festival will transform the Sports and Learning Complex into a premier destination for residents and visitors to gather and celebrate the global excitement of the FIFA World Cup while elevating Prince George’s County’s local economy.

The event will prominently feature Prince George’s County food trucks, artists, performers, and small business vendors—creating meaningful visibility and economic opportunity for local entrepreneurs while reinforcing the County Executive’s commitment to community-driven development.

“This festival is a continuation of our commitment to providing meaningful experiences for our residents that also stimulate our local economy,” said County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy.

Braveboy continued, “Prince George’s County is one of the most diverse communities in the country, and we are proud to embrace and celebrate that diversity. This is a joint opportunity to uplift our community while driving economic development. For years, residents have called for high-quality entertainment and sporting experiences right here in the County, and we are delivering on that promise.”

On Friday, June 12, residents are invited to a large-scale World Cup Watch Party featuring a live broadcast of the USA vs. Paraguay FIFA World Cup match on giant LED screens with concert-quality sound. Attendees can also enjoy live performances, local food offerings, halftime entertainment, and appearances by professional athletes and cultural influencers.

On Saturday, June 13, the celebration continues with the Youth World Championship Tournament, where youth teams representing their countries of heritage will compete in a dynamic showcase highlighting the County’s diversity, talent, and global connections.

"With the FIFA World Cup coming to our region, soccer in America is entering a once-in-a-generation moment, and Prince George’s County has an opportunity to be right at the center of it,” said David Okhumale, Managing Partner for EagleSport.

Okhumale continued, “We are excited to partner with Prince George’s County to create an experience that brings families together, from cheering on the US Men’s National Team to watching young players take the field in our youth tournament. The long-term success of the game will be built in communities like ours, where future fans, players, and leaders first fall in love with soccer. EagleSport Fest is about making sure our community is not just watching soccer’s future unfold, but helping shape it. Free, in our backyard, and for everyone.”

The Prince George’s County World Cup Festival is free and open to the public. Residents are encouraged to bring family, friends, and community spirit to this landmark summer celebration.
