Prince George’s County Legislation Increases Certification Validity Period, Recognizes Additional Proposal Preference Points, and Introduces New Local Diverse Supplier Prime Contractor Program

LARGO, MD – The Prince George’s County Office of Procurement is pleased to announce that two new pieces of legislation designed to strengthen the County’s diverse supplier programs took effect on July 24, 2026. The Council Bills were introduced and enacted in May 2026.

Council Bill CB-026-2026 – AN ACT CONCERNING LOCALLY-OWNED AND OPERATED BUSINESS ASSISTANCE 

The bill increases the validity period of all County business certifications from two years to three years. In addition, this bill establishes 5% preference points or bid discounts for Locally-owned and Operated businesses.

Council Bill CB-028-2026 – AN ACT CONCERNING LOCAL DIVERSE SUPPLIER PRIME CONTRACTOR PROGRAM 

This bill established a Local Diverse Supplier Prime Contractor Program which requires at least twenty percent (20%) of construction-related procurements (other than road and bridge projects) to be awarded to Locally-owned and Operated businesses or County-based Minority Business Enterprises (CBMBEs).
