In March 2020, Congress authorized the issuance of extra benefits known as Emergency Allotment (EA) to all eligible SNAP households to enable them deal with the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Due to a change in federal law, this extra benefit ends effective February 2023.
This means that effective March 2023, all SNAP households’ benefits will return to actual SNAP benefit amounts, without the added EA amount (extra benefits).
Actual SNAP allotment is determined on the basis of the household’s earned and unearned income, allowable deductions, and the number of eligible household members.
We understand this change may have a significant impact on many SNAP recipients. The Department of Social Services' Emergency Food Assistance Program works with more than 30 local community pantries and shelters. All food is provided to eligible individuals and families free of charge. Please call 301-909-6343 to get information and assistance within your particular area of the County.
