Tyrone Collington, Sr.

Tyrone Collington, Sr. is an accomplished public safety executive with over thirty years of experience in leadership, service, and organizational transformation. He joined the Office of Homeland Security in February 2026 as Deputy Director of the Administration Division for Prince George’s County. Previously, Mr. Collington served as Chief of Police for Bladensburg from March 2020 to February 2026, following his appointment as Deputy Chief in December 2018. Throughout his career, Chief Collington has demonstrated exceptional integrity, operational expertise, and a steadfast commitment to fostering community engagement and public trust.

Prior to his role in Bladensburg, Chief Collington dedicated 21 years to the Takoma Park Police Department, progressing through every rank from Patrol Officer to Commander/Captain of the Patrol Operations Division prior to retirement. His extensive command experience encompassed leadership of the Criminal Investigations Division, Patrol Operations, Community Action Team, K-9 Unit, and Hostage Negotiations Unit, as well as serving as Acting Chief of Police. His leadership has consistently enhanced organizational performance, promoted officer accountability, and cultivated productive community relations based on mutual respect.

Chief Collington’s distinguished career has been recognized with several notable accolades, including the Medal of Honor, Medal of Valor, Police Officer of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, Life-Saving Award, as well as multiple commendations for Meritorious Service, Community Service, and Exceptional Leadership. 

Chief Collington, a distinguished veteran of the U.S. Army and Army Reserve, completed over 22 years of honorable service, including deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and retired in 2006 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. His military background fostered discipline, duty, and decisive leadership—core values that continue to shape his command philosophy.

Chief Collington possesses a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Southern New Hampshire University and is an alumnus of the distinguished Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command (Session #438). His executive training includes successful completion of the New Chiefs of Police Leadership Program, the Greater Chesapeake Law Enforcement Executive Development School (LEEDS), and the Department of Homeland Security Leadership Academy (DHSLA, Session #9).

Chief Collington has served as President of the Police Chiefs’ Association of Prince George’s County (2024) and continues to actively participate in major professional organizations, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Maryland Chiefs of Police Association (MCPA), Maryland Municipal League (MML), and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE).
