County Executive Aisha Braveboy Rolls Out Strike Force 311 Fast-Track Solutions for Longstanding Service Requests
Prince George’s County, MD—County Executive Aisha Braveboy today announced the next phase of the signature Project Elevate initiative, the goal is to enhance and improve the quality of life in Prince George’s County. The newly launched effort, Strike Force 311, aims to address long-standing service requests in PGC311’s system.
Braveboy announced Strike Force 311 while standing in front of an overgrown and neglected lot filled with over 200 commercial tires piled high in the lot at 7109 E. Ridge Drive in Hyattsville, MD, which she identified as Complaint #24-00078385.
“These are not just numbers. They reflect the real concerns of residents, and this initiative is about responsiveness, responsibility, and results,” said County Executive Braveboy. “It’s not just about cleaning up debris or removing abandoned cars; it’s about restoring and renewing hope, and building the kind of Prince George’s County we all deserve to live in.”
Braveboy called the sites more than eyesores and a reminder of what happens when bureaucracy gets in the way of progress, which “will never happen again” as she introduced Chanel Dickerson the new Director of the Office of Community Relations which manages PGC311.
Strike Force 311 will operate seven days a week over the next 60 days, coordinating efforts with County agencies such as the Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) and the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement (DPIE) to tackle 13,345 aged service requests classified as nuisance abatement complaints. Ms. Braveboy said combined, there are more than 7,000 open cases between the two agencies, a pattern that will end under the Braveboy Administration.
County Executive Braveboy’s Office has committed $1 million in non-departmental funding to support the efforts of the agencies and contracting partners to effectively resolve nuisance abatement issues throughout the County. “This is not about beautification; this is about elevation. When we elevate each of these properties, we are elevating the spirit, the culture, and the quality of life in our communities.”
Strike Force 311 also provides an opportunity for local small contractor businesses in Prince George’s County to partner with County government to address issues such as potholes, overgrown trees, and stubborn tree stumps. Once again saying, “It’s good business to do business with the people of Prince George’s Couty,” with this initiative, County Executive Braveboy is encouraging local businesses that specialize in landscaping, tree trimming, litter collection, and similar services to consider opportunities and to visit the County’s procurement portal on the County’s official government website.
County Council Chair Ed Burroughs also provided remarks during which he listed the work county employees had completed during the 30+ days since County Executive Braveboy launched Project Elevate and the Countywide Litter and Beautification Blitz in June. The list included 71,000+ pounds of litter collected, 513 acres of County lawns mowed, and nearly half a million pounds of debris swept by DPW&T’s Residential Street Sweeping Program.
County Executive Braveboy expressed gratitude to the partners and stakeholders, including DPW&T, DPIE, the Department of the Environment (DoE), Office of Community Relations, the Revenue Authority, the Department of Homeland Security, the Prince Geroge’s County Police Department, the Office of Emergency Management, County Stat, and the leadership team from her office.
Residents are advised to continue submitting service requests to PGC311 during this period. The taskforce's efforts will not interfere with residents' current needs. Our aim is to significantly reduce the PGC311 backlog to ensure that residents' needs are effectively met.
