Prince George’s County Partners with Capitol Technology University to Host Innovation Hackathon on September 18th, powered by Amazon Web Services
Largo, MD – Prince George’s County Office of Information Technology (OIT), in collaboration with Capitol Technology University (CTU), Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Accenture, will host an all-day innovation hackathon on Friday, September 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at CTU Avrum Gudelsky Memorial Auditorium, 11301 Springfield Road, Laurel MD 20708. The event brings together students and technologists to develop solutions that support county services, public safety, cybersecurity, and community engagement. Participants will compete across four tracks: Citizen-Facing Services, OIT Strategy Focused, Cybersecurity, and General Innovation. Teams may use GitHub, AWS, Kiro, or any collaboration platform of their choice for documentation and project management, or any free open-source software to build their solutions.
Solutions will be evaluated based on:
- Impact for residents or the County
- Creativity and innovation
- Relevance to the chosen category
- Potential for implementation
OIT staff and technology partners will mentor participants throughout the day, providing guidance and expertise to transform ideas into practical applications that advance Prince George’s County’s technology vision. This hackathon supports key elements of the County’s Office of Information Technology Strategic Plan by strengthening the local tech ecosystem, building a technology career pipeline, and advancing digital government solutions that enhance services for residents. The initiative also reflects Prince George’s County’s broader vision for a technology driven community where youth opportunities, first class education, and economic growth are powered by local technology experts and innovation right here in the County.
