Mail-In Ballot Canvass
The Prince George’s County Board of Canvassing team will open vote by mail ballots beginning on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. at the Lake Arbor Community Center, 10100 Lake Arbor Way, Mitchellville, MD 20721. 

This process is referred to as the “canvass”. The canvass will continue daily as needed until all ballots are opened and scanned for counting. The Board will meet regularly to make decisions about ballots that are referred for review. Canvass Schedule.

Due to Covid-19, there will be limited access to the public.  Only two people will be allowed in the facility at one time for a period no longer than one-half hour.  The process can be view by the public via live-stream. Link to canvass live stream

If there are public challenges, the voter must alert us of the challenge, complete a Challenge Form and email it to . The challenger has one hour from the time the challenge is made to submit the form.

Results for ballots canvassed before Election Day will be released after 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3. The process will continue after Election Day, with each day’s results added to the previous day’s total, until all ballots are counted. This process typically takes several weeks, as ballots postmarked by Election Day can still be received for up to 10 days after Election Day,

Provisional ballots cast at vote centers during Early Voting or on Election Day will be opened beginning on Wednesday, November 11, 2020.


The next board meeting will be conducted on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 9 am via teleconference. The public may dial in by phone. The phone number and access information will be posted prior to the meeting.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Prince George's County Board of Elections is to promote voter education, administer an efficient voting process, maintain an accurate voter registration database, and ensure that elected officials are elected in accordance with Federal, State, and County election laws.


The Governor, by and with the consent of the Senate, appoints five persons who constitute the Board of Elections. The appointees are selected from lists furnished by the County Central Committee of the Democratic and Republican parties. The Board is responsible for the supervision of all County, State and Federal Elections held in Prince George's County.


The Board of Elections is responsible for the supervision of elections, voter registration and record keeping, and the administration of election laws in Prince George's County, in accordance with Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. The Board and the Election Administrator seek to provide voter registration to every County citizen who wants it.
