Free walk-in COVID-19 testing at the Temple Hills Community Center begins Thursday, January 13

LARGO, MD –The Prince George’s County Health Department and the Office of Emergency Management will provide on-site rapid COVID-19 testing at the Temple Hills Community Center (5300 Temple Hill Road, Temple Hills, MD 20748) beginning Thursday, January 13.

PCR testing will be available at the site starting Tuesday, January 18. Tests are free, regardless of insurance coverage or immigration status, and will be available Monday through Saturday, from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, on a walk-in basis only.  “Throughout the region, we are continuing to see a rise in cases and as a result, a demand in testing for COVID-19,” said Dr. George Askew, Prince George’s County Deputy Chief of Health, Human Services, and Education. “That is why we have decided to open another testing site so that our residents have access to additional opportunities to get tested. We have stressed over the last several weeks that residents should get tested, regardless of vaccination status, because it is critical to slowing the spread of this virus. With the opening of this new site, and our at-home test kit distributions starting this week, Prince Georgians will now have greater access to COVID-19 testing to keep themselves and their families safe.”

The County will continue to offer on-site COVID-19 rapid and PCR testing at the Bunker Hill Fire Station (3716 Rhode Island Avenue, Brentwood, MD 20722) Monday through Friday, from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, on a walk-in basis only. The County also continues to support the testing site at the First United Methodist Church of Hyattsville and Roseu Medical Center in Laurel.  Today, the County also began its weekly at-home rapid COVID-19 test kits distributions at designated locations in partnership with the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). In addition, the Maryland Department of Health recently opened and expanded several COVID-19 testing sites across the State, including 3 locations in Prince George’s County.  The Health Department encourages individuals to get tested for COVID-19 if they:

• Have COVID-19 symptoms, even if fully vaccinated;
• Have had close contact with someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19;
• Testing should occur 5 days after last exposure to someone with COVID-19.
• The date of the last exposure is considered day 0.
• Day 1 is the first full day after the last contact with a person who has COVID-19.
• Plan to travel (if you are planning to travel internationally, you should be fully
• vaccinated);
• Plan to attend a gathering;
• Work in an organization that requires COVID-19 testing; or
• Have been asked or referred by a health department, school, workplace, or healthcare provider to get tested.
