Voter Registration Requirements

To register to vote, you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen;
  • A Maryland resident; and
  • At least 16 years old*.

You cannot have been:

Joining a Political Party

At the time of registration, a citizen may choose to join a political party. Only the Democratic and Republican parties hold primaries. Whether a citizen belongs to a party or not has no bearing on a citizen's vote in General Elections. 

Do I Have to Register for Each Election?

Registration is permanent as long as the voter keeps his address current with the Board of Elections.

Change of Address

Notify the Board of Elections within 30 days of any change of address. Failure to provide a correct address could result in denial of the voting privilege and criminal prosecution should one vote or attempt to vote in a precinct where he or she is not qualified to vote. Voters may change their address by sending a letter with their new address or by filling out the English Voter Registration Application (PDF), or Spanish Voter Registration Application (PDF) and mailing it to:

Voter Accessibility

Whereas The Prince George's County Board of Elections is committed to the goal of 100% participation and accessibility in a manner that addresses the unique needs of each eligible citizen;

Whereas The Prince George's County Board of Elections is committed to identifying and implementing procedures to improve access to and participation by all voters in the election process;

Voting

If the polling place assigned to an elderly or disabled voter is not structurally barrier free, the voter may request a reassignment by the local board. To qualify for a reassignment the voter shall submit a request in writing to the Prince George's County Board of Elections no later than Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 9 p.m. for the General Election. The Board shall either assign the voter to an election district, ward, or precinct that contains a structurally barrier free polling place; or issue the voter an absentee ballot
