Director of Homeland Security, Ronald E. Gill Jr

Ronald E. Gill, Jr.

Ronald E. Gill Jr. has served as the Director of Homeland Security since April 21, 2021, when he was sworn in a unanimous vote of confidence by the Prince George’s County Council.  In this role, Director Gill oversees emergency operations and communications, the 9-1-1 center, emergency preparedness, incident response, and disaster recovery, among other responsibilities.

Mr. Gill is an experienced emergency management professional, a true leader who has more than 30 years of experience in the field of emergency services and first responder activities at regional and local levels of government, academia, and as a board member of several regional government and community committees.

Mr. Gill obtained his Associate and Bachelor of Fire Science Degrees from The University of the District of Columbia, and Master of Science in Management from The Johns Hopkins University.  In addition, he is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Policy from University of Maryland Baltimore County. He is also a 2007 graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Emergency Training Center.
