[ARCHIVED] County Executive Joins U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Governor, and Montgomery County Executive

County Executive Baker Joins U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, Governor Larry Hogan, and Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett for Purple Line Groundbreaking in Prince George’s County

Upper Marlboro, Maryland – On Monday, August 28, at 10:00 a..m., Prince George’s County is proud to host the Groundbreaking for the Maryland Transit Administration’s Purple Line - a 16.2 mile Light Rail project with 21 stations (11 in Prince George’s County), from New Carrollton to Bethesda, with Riverdale Park, the College Park Metro, the University of Maryland, Langley Park, and Silver Spring in between, connecting the Orange, Green and both spokes of the Red Metro Lines. Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III will be joined by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, Governor Larry Hogan, and Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett at this event that will take place at the future home of the Purple Line Operations Center at 4800 Veterans Parkway in Hyattsville, MD.

“The Purple Line will improve accessibility to jobs and provide low and moderate income households more exposure to both transit and employment opportunities,” said County Executive Baker. “By providing a more direct connection to employment, the Purple Line will help to significantly reduce the commute for thousands of Prince Georgians. The Purple Line will be critical in not only reducing congestion, and improving mobility and access, but helping to bridge clear social equity issues. The public will benefit by having a quicker, more environmentally sound access to and from housing to places of employment and other services ranging from retail to entertainment and major institutions like the University of Maryland.”
