WMATA Makes Late Change to SafeTrack Surge#14 – County Takes Steps to
Bolster Service in Response
WMATA SafeTrack Surge
#14 will run from April 15 through May 16, 2017, in two phases. During the first phase, from April 15 to
April 29, WMATA Metrorail trains will not serve the College Park and Greenbelt
Stations. During this phase, WMATA will
run free shuttle buses between the Prince George’s Plaza and Greenbelt Metro
Stations with an intermediate stop at the College Park Station.
During the second
phase, from April 30 to May 14, WMATA will open the College Park Station while
the Greenbelt Station remains closed, and run free shuttles between the College
Park and Greenbelt Metro Stations.
During both phases, Green Line service out of the work zone will
function as normal, except Yellow Rush+ trains will not operate.
MARC and Amtrak trains
will continue to serve the Greenbelt and College Park stations and operate as
normal throughout the surge. However,
any MARC or Amtrak passengers who would normally transfer to a WMATA Metrorail
train at these stations will need to utilize the free shuttle buses provided by
WMATA.
Prince George’s County TheBus System will offer supplemental
service for residents during Surge #14. TheBus Route 15X (Greenbelt to New
Carrollton) will double the frequency of service during peak periods from 40
minutes to 20 minutes from April 17 to May 16.
The additional service is designed to help ease access to the Metro
system for those potentially impacted by WMATA Surge #14.
