[ARCHIVED] County Executive to Host Pep Rally and Declare “Washington Redskins Kick-Off Week”

County Executive Welcomes “The Voice of the Redskins” Larry Michael, "The First Ladies of Football" - the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders and former Redskins' Player and County resident, Ken Jenkins, to County Administration Building in Upper Marlboro

Upper Marlboro, Maryland – Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 7, at 10:30 a.m., at the County Administration Building (CAB) in Upper Marlboro (Courthouse Promenade Side), Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, will be joined by Prince George’s County Council Chair Derrick L. Davis and host a pep rally to declare September 8th to September 12th “Washington Redskins Kick-Off Week” as the County hosts a nationally televised Monday Night Football Game from FedEx Field in Landover, MD. The game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 12th begins at 7:00 p.m. County Executive Baker will encourage all Prince Georgians as well as all Prince George’s County employees to wear and promote the “Burgundy and Gold” throughout the week. Additionally, on Friday, September 10th and throughout the month of September, the County Administration Building will light up in “Burgundy and Gold” to honor the Redskins.

“The Voice of the Redskins,” play-by-play announcer, Larry Michael, will join County Executive Baker and share his insights and reasons to be excited about the 2016 football season for the defending NFC East Champions. Prince George’s County Police (PGPD) Chief Hank Stawinski will address safety preparations and tips for attendees and County/region commuters during the Monday Night game. Former Washington Redskin and Prince George’s County resident, Ken Jenkins, along with the “First Ladies of Football” - the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders, will join the festivities.

Prince George’s County has been home to FedEx Field and the Washington Redskins since 1997. The County earns approximately $1 million dollars per game in tax revenue and provides direct and indirect employment for thousands of County residents. The Washington Redskins Charity Foundation has distributed millions in charitable donations to Prince George’s County, including assisting and providing resources to thousands of Prince George’s County Public School students.
