August 1st, ground breaking begins to restore a historic building and preserve its original architecture while bringing together a vibrant mix of uses including 11 market rate residential units, Annie’s Ace Hardware Store and a café/restaurant.
Largo, MD --- On Monday, August 1st at 10:00 a.m. County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III will break ground on another new development project in the Gateway Arts District. Mr. Baker, the Redevelopment Authority of Prince George’s County, real estate developer The Menkiti Group and other elected official and community leaders will take part in a groundbreaking ceremony at the old historic Singer building at 3300 Rhode Island Avenue, Mt. Rainier, MD. The project entails restoring this existing historic building and preserving its original architecture while bringing together a vibrant mix of uses including 11 market rate residential units, a 6,800 square foot Annie’s Ace Hardware Store and a 1,600 square foot café/restaurant.
“This latest development will activate the commercial core of Mt. Rainier and spur continuing economic development in this Gateway Arts District corridor,” said Howard Ways, Executive Director of the Redevelopment Authority of Prince George’s County. “We look forward to working with all of our partners to complete this new development in Mt. Rainier.”
The Redevelopment Authority, along with County and State funding, acquired three long-standing vacant and blighted buildings in the Gateway Arts District between 2012 and 2014. They include:
• Studio 3807: 147 market rate apartments, 6,000 square feet of retail, 193 parking spaces located at the corner of 38th Street and RI Ave, Brentwood. Development Partner is Landex and construction to start September 2016.
• The Artisan: 84 market rate apartments, 5,000 square feet of retail, 120 parking spaces located at 4100 RI Ave, Brentwood. Development Partner is Landex and construction to start February 2017.
• Net Zero House: A new home on a vacant lot on 34th street in Mt. Rainier that will have net zero energy use. Developer Partner is Urban Green and construction to start August 2016.
